Secure Computing to Acquire Securify
Leading user-access monitoring and control solution combined with Secure Firewall position company to drive Next-Generation Firewall market.
Today, secure Computin are announcing the acquisition of Securify, a private, Cupertino California-based company that develops and sells appliance solutions that deliver identity-based monitoring and control of user access to applications in changing, complex networks. The Securify product is highly complementary to our Secure Firewall product line. With the combination of the two, our solution will be able to provide you with unprecedented visibility and control of network-based applications; with the ability to define and enforce business and identity-based security policy on their usage.
This strategic acquisition will extend our solution by immediately addressing your demands for identity-based application usage discovery and control to address growing requirements for insider compliance and risk mitigation.
Secure will leverage the technology to deliver a unique next-generation firewall that enforces an organizations business policy by enabling visibility and control over applications and users, as opposed to the current paradigm of protocols and IP addresses. We believe this is in line with the vision leading analysts such as Gartner paint, but no one fully delivers today:
"The days when port = protocol = application are behind us. An increasing percentage of enterprise network traffic is being funneled through a few well-known ports, more port-hopping or dynamic application content, such as Web 2.0 and other mashups. In many cases, traffic is being encrypted." In addition, "as part of increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of firewalls, enterprises need to add more blocking capability to them as part of the base product, go beyond port/protocol identification and move toward a service view of traffic." (Gartner, Inc. "Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Network Firewalls, 2H07" by Greg Young & John Pescatore, 9/13/07)
The combination of Securify and the Secure Firewall will deliver just that.
Upon closing of the transaction, which we anticipate will be in early Q4, pending certain closing conditions, the Securify product and team will be come part of our Network and application security business unit alongside the Secure Firewall team. The majority of the Securify team will be joining Secure Computing and will become the nucleus of our first Silicon Valley development center, another exciting aspect of this deal.
